Dear Member,

I trust you all had a good xmas, and a happy new year to you all. There is a lot of information contained in this newsletter but the most important bit is that it is subs renewal time again. For those members whose membership runs through from last year i.e. new members who joined late in the year to fish the Masters, and Life members, I will have enclosed a 2017 membership card. Please note this means brand new members and not those who lapsed their membership for one year or more. The rest of members will need to send me a cheque for £20 made payable to SAMF and fill in the reply slip at the end of this newsletter, or by using PayPal either via the website or using your personal Paypal account by choosing send a gift (if you use buying services we get charged). If you would like to transfer the £20 electronically our bank account details are: Santander, sort code 09-01-53, account number 48723288. Please don’t forget to do this because it costs time and money to send out reminders.

Also very important is that we are looking for a match secretary. Anyone interested please contact me or Darren.

The following is the press release from the Masters 2016 at Chesil. Full results can be found on the website:

Devon angler Ben Bradstock won the 2016 SAMF UK MASTERS at Cogden, Chesil in Dorset on the 28th and 29th October. Ben picked up the top prize of £950 in cash and two top of the range Anyfish Anywhere rods.

49 anglers from England, Wales and the Isle of Man competed for the title on Cogden, Chesil, where anglers were greeted with calm conditions on both days. This meant that there were plenty of fish to be caught, but decisions had to be made what species to target, with plaice, dogfish and a sprinkling of other species such as gurnard on the bottom, and plenty of garfish on the surface. Most competitors started bottom fishing early in the matches to take advantage of the tide flow but as this eased most change to surface fishing for Garfish. Small mackerel were a nuisance for those surface fishing with some competitors quite happy to fill their freezers for the coming winter!!!

On the first day competitors needed between 10 and 13 fish to come in the top three in their sections. Ben Bradstock from Honiton, Devon had the best overall catch with 13 fish for 12lb 13oz with a mixed bag of dogfish, plaice, garfish and a gurnard. Runner up on day 1 was Andrew Dugdale from the Isle of Man with 8 fish for 12lb 9oz with a bag of dogfish and plaice. Heaviest fish on day one was a dogfish of 2lb 3oz caught by Joe Arch from Cardiff, runner up heaviest fish was a tie with three fish of 2lb 1oz, two plaice caught by Andrew Dugdale and Ben Bradstock and a dogfish caught by Mark Pinder, from Ipswich.

The competition was divided in to 2 sections of 25 pegs, zone prizes were 1st £100, 2nd £60 and 3rd £35.

The zone positions on day 1 were:-

A zone 1st   Ben Bradstock                 12lb 13oz.

B zone 2nd    Joe Arch                         7lb 12oz

B zone 3rd    Lee Collins                       7lb 11oz

Day 2 saw even calmer condition with anglers still needing between 10 and 16 fish to score well. Top catch was made by Kenny McKoy from Sunderland with 10 fish for 14lb 10oz. Kenny concentrated on bottom fishing throughout the match catching some quality plaice, dogfish and a gurnard. Runner up on day 2 was Ben Bradstock with 16 fish for 8lb 15oz, mainly garfish and 2 dogfish.

Biggest fish on day two was a plaice of 2lb 13oz caught by Kenny McKoy second heaviest fish was also a plaice of 2lb 9oz caught by Mark Rogers from Maidstone.
